Copenhagen's greenhouse restaurant

A seamless blend of city and garden; our first ‘casual Nordic dining' experience at Copenhagen’s greenhouse restaurant Väkst...

We had already sipped on the organic cocktails of Neighbourhood, shopped the trinkets and stationery of dreamy Interior Design store HAY house and taken a train ride to visit the quirky rooms and installations offered by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, but we both agreed that our evening at Väkst came out on top as the city-break favourite.

Situated in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter, the garden-party themed restaurant is an echo of the effortlessly stylish and sociable city aesthetics. A staircase descends down into the greenhouse with a ceiling of plant-pots suspended from pinewood beams. It was at this point we realised we had been lucky enough to reserve a table downstairs where you feel that extra bit immersed in its leafy surroundings, complimented by other beautiful rustic features- a decorative swing, mahogany shelves of pottery and vases and candle lit tables thoughtfully scattered within its concrete walls. You really are made to feel in the centre of the underground of old Copenhagen.

The food is equally impressive and stays true to the emphasis on greens and urban gardening (I read beforehand that its garden-party theme extended to the cuisine, creating the impression of being served fresh herbs and vegetables of the season ‘straight from the garden’).
I have copied in some of my Vegetarian set and dessert below alongside some of the pictures I took:
